Projects Planned to Help Speed Up City’s Marine Industry
Shenzhen has begun several maritime projects to speed up the growth of the city’s marine industry. In the city’s five year plan marine projects will include port construction and the development of yacht tourism.
During the city’s previous five year plan, Shenzhen’s marine industry output surged to 104 billion yuan which is 8 percent higher than the previous year’s earnings of 83 billion yuan. In 2010, marine industry output contributed 11 percent of the city’s GDP. Because of the outcome, the Central Government granted the city’s application to develop itself into a model city for scientific development of a maritime economy.
To further achieve higher growth in 2015, the city will improve infrastructure in the container docks in Yantian port, completing the second phase of the Zhonggu sea route project, start work on the Bao’an comprehensive port area and the eastern port are of Yantian and implement innovations of Taizi port.
The city has already boosted yacht tourism development by giving support to local yacht manufacturers developing high end yachts. By doing this it attracted international brands to the city and set up a yacht trading center and further simplified border and customs procedures. A yacht tourism port will also be constructed in Dameisha and the western Shenzhen bay area, turning it into a yacht industrial park and free trade zone.
