Airport Celebrates Anniversary with Dance, Choral and Instrumental Performances
For the first nine months of its operation and celebrating its 23rd anniversary, the passenger turnover of the Shenzhen International Airport has reached 26 million which shows an increase of 10 percent compared to the same period last year. Cargo turnover has also reached 700,000 tons by September.
Statistics have shown that the Shenzhen Airport have handled around 328 million passengers and transported more than 9 million tons of cargo in the span of 23 years and was one of the busiest airports in China. to celebrate the airport’s anniversary a flash mob of dancers from different walks of life happened inside the terminal of the airport which took travelers by surprise. Crowds gathered to take videos and photos of the dancers as they perform, in addition choral and instrumental performances were also held to mark the airport’s anniversary.
Shenzhen International Airport started its operations in October 12, 1991, and then in 2003 the passenger count has reached 10 million and doubled by 2007. The new terminal was recently placed into operations in November of last year and is three times the size of terminals A and B and is said to be a huge upgrade of the facilities and capacity of the airport.
The new airport terminal is divided into three parts namely the main building and two large corridors which forms a cross shape and its honey comb type appearance is known in the architectural community. The terminal boasts of 450,000 square meters of space with 62 boarding gates and the capability to accommodate any type of aircraft in the world.
