Poll Shows Guangdong was Top Spender During Yesterday’s Singles Day
Based on data that was released by Alibaba China’s biggest Internet retail giant that Guangdong was the top province that spent the most money followed by Zhejiang and Jiangsu provinces during yesterday’s shopping spree. November 11 also known as double eleven or Singles Day has become the country’s busiest day for online retail since Alibaba started promoting the shopping festival six years ago.
Last year Alibaba reports online sales of 36 billion yuan more than the combined US$ 3.7 billion online sales during Thanksgiving Day, Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Alibaba also broke the record in sales in less than 14 hours after two of its shopping platform Tmall and Taobao opened at midnight yesterday. Residents from 211 countries and regions outside the Chinese mainland also joined the online shopping spree with Hong Kong, United States and Russia among the three top buyers.
Also total sale volume from 18 major online retailers have reached 54 billion by 2 pm yesterday. Even with the shopping spree frenzy in the country, local shoppers behaves rationally this year. Some spend around half of what they spend during last year’s shopping and only bought items that were needed.
