Roadside Parking Fees to be Used to Improve Traffic Conditions
The Shenzhen Road Traffic Management Center stated that all revenues collected from roadside parking is handed over to the city finance commission and will be used as a special fund for the improvement of traffic conditions. This put an end to all doubts in were the funds are being used.
Shenzhen started to pilot the collection of roadside parking fees on July 8 at around 1,673 parking spaces scattered in four areas in the city which include Zhuzilin, the southern portion of FUtian CBD, Nanshan CBD and Tianbei. Based on the rules the center is responsible for the announcement of the details of their revenue from July until December to the public by January of next year.
For 2015, the government is planning to add around 20,767 parking spaces in Longgang and Bao’an districts and in several new areas. these parking slots will be spread across 314 sections of roads that are categorized in 57 administrative areas by the Shenzhen Road Traffic Management Center which already initiated the creation of 13,935 parking spots in Luohu, Futian, Yantian and Nanshan district and these projects will be completed before the year ends. Fee collection for these new parking spots will start in January 2015.
