Thirty Key Activities to Highlight Month Long Creative December
The tenth Shenzhen Creative December was launched last Sunday. The month long celebration will have 30 key activities focusing on innovation design. Started in 2005 the annual event help promote and boost the city’s cultural industries and hopefully encourage the public in participating in cultural event and to be more creative. The key activities will cover the nine categories namely industrial arts, calligraphy, creative design, and painting, film and television, press, theatrical performances, animation and publication, tourism and leisure, games, tangible and intangible cultural heritages.
The highlight for this month is the Shenzhen Creative Design Award that was initiated and falls under the umbrella of projects that was aimed to help the city liven up to its recently awarded UNESCO City of Design title, an award that was funded by the city’s special fund for cultural development. Given out every two years this year award will look into competitions in six design categories which are architectural space, fashion, visual communication, interactive design and other innovative ideas.
There will be three level of prizes the two top prizes will be worth 500,000 yuan each, six prizes with 300,000 yuan each, and 60 prizes with each at 60,000 yuan. Philippe Kern, a member of the Strategic Advisory Committee of Shenzhen International City Construction, said that to a very large extent, Shenzhen has been contributing in the efforts on transforming China into a creative economy with its numerous design, fashion and animation fairs.
Kern’s goal was to create more coherence between all the initiatives and get better results so that the city will look attractive to talents both homegrown and abroad.
