City Education Bureau Encourages Schools to Open Sports Facilities to the PublicThe city’s educational bureau has unveiled information on the possibility of the first school sports facilities to be open for public use by next year. Every non-boarding public primary and middle schools in Shenzhen are now required to open their sports facilities for the public in a program that is based on the city’s fitness promotion regulations that will take effect on January 1.

The information was announced including the name of the schools and their address together with the opening times and contact information on how to reserve the facilities. The education bureau also plans to require these public schools to open their sports facilities to the public on or before June, as the schools may need to do necessary renovations during the winter vacation. The Gaofeng School in Longhua New Area already opened its sports facilities to residents in 2011 but several problems have risen, such as the cost of maintaining the sports facilities which can reach 100,000 yuan. While monthly water and electricity bills ranges from 20,000 to 40,000 yuan.

While some schools worry that the residents might be injured while using the facilities which prompted the city government to subsidize schools that opens their sports facilities to the public and can purchase safety liability insurance for these schools.
