Health Authority Creates Special Fund to Assist Patients without Money
According to the city health authority the city has created a special fund that will help patients who can’t be identified or doesn’t have any financial capacity to pay their medical bills in an emergency situation. The fund will integrate the medical aid fund of the Red Cross at the municipal and district levels and management regulation started as of January 1.
The fund is primarily supported by fiscal revenues and is supplemented by donations and every person or organization domestically or abroad is encouraged to make donations to the fund. Persons having emergencies or acute illness and living in Shenzhen but can’t be identified or pay for the treatments can ask for assistance from the fund. Donors can also specify which type of patients will be the recipient of the donations. Furthermore the fund can be used to assist people falling ill or injured during outbreaks of serious diseases, accidents or natural disasters.
The fund is applicable in both private and public hospital in Shenzhen as long as they submit application materials every January and in July. 100 million yuan in medical bill are said to be overdue every year at the 134 hospitals around the city in which 10 percent are emergency medical bills.
