More Than 4,000 Parking Tickets Issued since Measure was Implemented in the Strict Area
The city traffic police issued a total of 3,913 tickets for illegal parking from Thursday and Saturday since heavier fines were implemented in the strict area, the first type of measure in the city. the fines include 645 tickets for 1,000 yuan, 860 tickets for 500 yuan and 473 tickets for 200 yuan.
Since Thursday stricter rules were implemented and heavier fines that reached up to 2,000 yuan for parking violations inside the strict area was issued by more than 500 officers that were on patrol for violations everyday from 7:30 am until 9:30 pm. The strict area is an area where parking laws are slated to be enforced strictly and is bound by Bao’an Road in the East, Xinzhou Road in the west, Beihuan Boulevard in the north and border road with Hong Kong in the south.
The city adopted a four tiered punishement scheme for those caught illegally parking by issuing 200 yuan, 500 yuan, 1,000 yuan and 2,000 yuan ticket fines. So far four drivers were fined 2,000 yuan the highest fine in the country for illegally parking which also drew criticism from residents who though that the fine was too harsh.
Although implementing a heavy fine is not a sure way to relieve congestion, in the long run Shenzhen needs to issue a long term plan to relieve traffic congestion.
