Drivers with No Violations on Record can Apply for Exemptions
Driver that has no violations on record for the past two years can apply for exemption from fines no higher than 500 yuan and penalty points for any violations created since January of this year. More than 20,000 drivers meet the standards for the punishment exemption and were able to waive fines. This type of program is a first of its kind in China.
These types of violations are mainly minor ones like illegally crossing a dividing line, running a red light or parking illegally. The applicant for the exemption must be the car owner and their violations must have not cause any accidents or in one. Traffic police the exemption is a move that will encourage drivers to form good driving habits and to be observant of traffic rules. Driver can apply for the exemption at any traffic police counters found in each district and online or phone applications will start on April.
Violations that involve penalty points added to the driver’s license will be automatically canceled when a driver’s application for exemption is approved. The deputy chief of the Lesgilative Affairs Department of Shenzhen Municipal Traffic Police said that they will still continue to warn drivers and record any violations despite any exemptions being made.
