Shenzhen Doubles the Number of Innovation Centers for 2014
Shenzhen has doubled its number of innovation research centers which now stands at 1,106 based on a report that was released by the Shenzhen Technology and Innovation Commission. The city is one of the pioneering of implementing strategy for innovation driven growth especially in Guangdong in which accumulated experience for other cities and regions to learn from.
This year, Shenzhen clinched 17 National Technology Award a record high for the city. among the five scientists who won the Tan Kah Kee Young Scientist Awards, two hail from Shenzhen namely Zheng Hairong a local professor at the Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology and WangJun BGI co founder. Shenzhen also spent 600 million yuan for research and development of around 147 projects in the fields of 4G telecommunications, new energy vehicles, 3D displays and metamaterials. The number of patent applications also increased by 15 percent or half of the nation’s total.
Nanshan district was also voted as the most innovative incubator among all district in China by the Guangdong Academy of Social Sciences, while Bao’an, Futian and Longgang districts were able to enter the top 20.
