Surveillance Cameras to be Used to Further Monitor Non Smoking Areas
The authorities assigned for smoking control in the city will now use surveillance camera in public venues to further monitor smoking and to hopefully encourage the public to take photographs of violators to be used as evidence in reporting smoking violations. The smoking control office will plan to use the campaign as they have agreed that smoking is still rampant in some areas in the city.
The campaign will entice more responsibility and enthusiasm from operators and administrators of these public places to participate in banning smoking in public areas. Several public places such as eateries, internet cafes, markets and office buildings are some areas still see smokers. Although the smoking control has greatly improved in hotels, transportation venues and medical institutions.
As of January 31 the smoking control office dispatched more than 171,000 law enforcement officers that are responsible in inspecting public venues citywide. These officers were able to persuade 133,722 smokers to stop smoking in off limit areas in 94,305 nonsmoking public venues.
Besides implementing fines, the office will be creating more smoking places in Appropriate outdoor venues, and will encourage these venue operators to participate in nonsmoking promotions to improve residents awareness of why they should not be smoking in public places.
