More International Students Coming to Study at Chinese Universities
Around 375,000 students came to the Chinese mainland from different parts of the world to study last year which is a 5.77 percent increase compared to 2013. According to the Ministry of Education the students came from 203 countries and regions. The numbers came from Oceania and Africa last year and has increased dramatically, and those coming from America dropped a little.
The number of students that came from Oceania is at 6,272 a 32.24 percent increase year on year, students from Africa is at 41,677 and increase of 24.93 percent and the number coming from America has dropped 2.45 percent. Most of the students that came to mainland China to study because they were attracted by the political and economic development of the country. A student from Kenya said that China has a system that works and its political system if very efficient. While the economic and social developments are very impressive.
A lot of international students have decided to study in China due to the significant amount of financial support that the Chinese Universities and authorities give. Like a student from Grenade who came in September and studied international communication at Communication University of China said he chose China because of the attractive scholarship packages that were offered to international students and the quality of education is impressive.
A survey made by the Center for China and Globalization and a Beijing think tank shows that international students are making up less than 1 percent of the students at Chinese colleges and universities. And according to Chen Zhiwen the chief editor for eol.cn, China’s largest education portal said that Oceanian and African students interest in studying in China started lats it lead to an increase compared to two years ago.
