Sales of Live Poultry Ban to Start in Four Districts
Starting today a ban on the sales of live poultry is take effect in Luohu, Yantian, Futian and Nanshan districts. Live poultry sellers in wet markets are asked by the city government to switch from selling live poultry to selling iced fresh slaughtered poultry and to who transfer will be receiving subsidies to renovate their booths.
There will be three government sanctioned slaughterhouses will be supplying iced fresh slaughtered poultry to these sellers in the four districts. And besides having centralized slaughtering, fresh products will go through refrigerated delivery to ensure the freshness of the slaughtered poultry. Futian District will be the first district to implement the ban based on the pilot run that was done last year in July. Still live poultry was sold in a wet market in Buwei Urban Village in Futian.
One vendor said that they know about the ban but according to him there is nobody coming to stop them selling live chickens. But for now from of the poultry booths in Futian have already been renovated to accommodate the selling of iced fresh slaughtered poultry. Vendors said that they will be waiting and see the effect of the ban before they will decide whether to start selling ice fresh slaughtered poultry or look into doing other businesses.
The sales of live poultry will only be allowed in designated areas in certain parts of the districts and new areas that are not under the sales ban.
