City Require Owners to Install RFID Chips in their Vehicles
Based on a new draft that was amended by the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone Road Traffic Safety Rules, the city will be requiring all vehicles owners to place a radio frequency identification chip in the vehicles. This move was based after a pilot program by the Ministry of Public Security that seek public opinion on the topic.
The RF Chips will allow for easier identification and better supervision during traffic as the chips is a step forward to intelligent traffic management. The standing committee of the Shenzhen Municipal People’s Congress stated that the city government will shoulder the cost of the chips and those who will remove or destroy the chips will be subject to a 500 yuan fine.
Traffic authority also said that the installation of the chips will help manage traffic scientifically and will provide basic data for intelligent traffic management. The system will also be confidential and secure since it doesn’t have a GPS function. The chips will be coded and recognized by special devices that will be used by traffic police. These chips could also help detect illegal vehicles especially those with duplicate registrations.
