Roadside Parking Fees to be Extended
The city traffic authority has increased the free roadside parking hours to 8 pm from 9 pm starting last Thursday. Vehicle owners can now enjoy and increased in time for free roadside parking from 8pm until 7:30 am. The city transport commission is also extending roadside parking grace period to ten minutes which allow drivers more time to pay fees and operate car parking apps. Furthermore the commission will lower the standard fees by giving out discounts during different time periods.
The city transport commission is working hard with the legislative affairs office and to review the roadside parking fee collection rule a first of its kind in China. Since most drivers are not familiar with the parking app and cannot finish paying the fee within the allotted time, the authority extends the grace period to ten minutes before charging starts. Studies also shows that occupancy rate of roadside parking is 85 percent at night and 25 percent during the daytime.
Since then traffic congestion has improved as roadside parking fee rules were implemented last year. Drivers parking at designated parking places and doesn’t pay the fees need to pay back parking fee along with fines for illegally parking. Those parking their vehicles longer will pay double the normal fee before midnight the following day or else face the fine issued by traffic police along with the parking fees.
