Free SIM Cards Given Away to Attract More Visitors to Hong Kong
Hong Kong based Startup is giving out free SIM cards to visitors in efforts to help Hong Kong fight of declining sales in the city. the free SIM is developed by Green-iSIM Motion provides the user around 50 MB of data and 50 minutes of phone usage. Once the data runs out users can reload by reading ads on the i-SIM app that contains information on shopping, hotels, restaurants and tourists destinations in Hong Kong.
Users can get up to 150 minutes of phone calls and 150 MB of data when using the app for two minutes, but the service does not include any payment transactions for recharging card validity extensions, overseas roaming or phone call recording. Green-iSIM has established partnership with 100 retail stores in Hong Kong and visitors can avail of the SIM cards for free at China Travel services branches in Hong Kong, train stations and hotels in which they can use it up to a week. The SIM cards will also be distributed at the Hong Kong International Airport soon.
Hong Kong saw a decline of 2 percent in retail sales in the first two months of this year, and sales of luxury goods such as watches and jewelries fell 16 percent year on year. During the same period miscellaneous consumer products also fell 15 percent in value. The number of mainland visitors arriving in Hong Kong also decreased 10 percent in March compared to the same period last year and fewer visitors coming from other countries as well.
To attract more visitors to come back to Hong Kong various promotions are being offered by the Hong Kong Quality Tourism Service Association with retailers until the end of May.
