Shenzhen Residents Working Through the Holiday got HIgher Overtime PayResidents that worked throughout the May Day holidays were able to take home more money than any other workers who worked the same three days in other big cities.

The city’s labor bureau started its new monthly minimum wage standard of 2,030 yuan per month and an overtime pay of 280 yuan from working on Labor Day. Workers that worked throughout the three day May Holiday were able to take home 653 yuan in overtime pay. Compared to Shanghai were working on May 1 was only 279 yuan and 650 yuan for the three days. While Guangzhou implemented its new minimum wage rules that raised salaries to 1,890 yuan a month and overtime pay of 609 for working throughout the May Day holidays.

Working in the three day holidays garnered workers in Tianjin and Beijing 595 and 553 yuan. And as both cities introduced its new minimum salaries in April with basic pay of 1,850 yuan and 1720 yuan a month respectively.

The country’s labor laws states that companies should pay 300 percent of an employee normal daily pay or their hourly wage when working on May 1, companies can then compensate employees working on May 2 and 3 with either compensatory leave or with overtime wages.
