Coal Use Ban to be Extended to Suburban Areas
China is planning to expand the ban con coal burning to suburban areas and city centers as the country fights off the air pollution problem. As stated in the clean coal action plan for 2015 – 2020 the National Energy Administration stated that it would promote the use of centralized heating and power supply using natural gas and renewables and replace scattered heat and engines that are fueled by low quailty coals.
Furthermore China will ban the use, sale and burning of high as ad high sulfur coals especially to the worst affected areas and regions which include city cluster that surround Beijing. Last year, Beijing have already ordered the ban on coal burning in the six central districts until 2020. Also based on the action plan, all coal fired industrial boilers will shift to burn natural gas or use clean coals by 2020 in the Pearl River Delta, Yangtze River and city clusters in Beijing, Hebei and Tianjin.
There are around 600,000 industrial boilers that are fueled by coal with most of them found in residential areas in Northern China. To encourage the use of cleaner fuels the government is planning to offer subsidies , but no details has been given out yet.
