Airlines to Provide Inflight Wi-Fi Services Soon
China Southern Airlines, Air China and China Eastern Airlines were given the green light to provide in flight Wi-Fi services. Passengers taking any of the three airlines don’t have to wait long before logging on and staying plugged in during flights.
China Eastern Airlines is the first Chinese carrier to provide the Wi-Fi services on both of their domestic and international flights. A statement made by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, that China Eastern is allowed to use the AsiaSat-6 satellite to provide the Wi-Fi services on its 21 aircraft. The Wi-Fi services will be good for a month as the airline is fixing and formalities that they need before the formal launch.
Market research showed that 86 percent of passengers will take flights that provide internet services as a priority. Providing Wi-Fi services is considered an important strategy for the airline in hopes to attract more passengers and this pushed them to make it a standard service in their entire fleet. To ensure this to happen, 70 of their aircraft will be modified to install the proper equipment before 2017. Once all installations are complete, airlines will be able to connect with network devices in base stations located in the ground.
