City to Construct Tunnel to Connect Shenzhen Bay with Sewage Treatment Plant
According to Yang Geng the vice head for Shenzhen’s water resources bureau that the tunnel that was constructed to remove sewage from Shenzhen Bay will start operations by the end of the year. 27 pipes are currently discharging around 50,000 cubic meters of wastewater into the ocean every day and to battle the pollution in the bay area the city constructed the tunnel that will link Shenzhen Bay to the Nanshan sewage treatment plant.
Instead of emptying the wastewater into Shenzhen Bay the tunnel will bring the sewage to the treatment plant. The new method will be adopted to collect the sewage water at the most polluted part of Shenzhen bay until the tunnel finishes construction. Water pollution was long been a problem in Shenzhen Bay that residents and several political advisers have voiced their concerns. One adviser raised an issue on the pollution during the annual session of the political advisory boy of the city as he showed photos on how severe the situation was.
Some of the advisers suggested creating a national park in Shenzhen Bay as part of the city’s effort in repairing the environment near the bay. The planned park can also be a reminder to its residents in taking good care of their surroundings for the future of the following generations. The city government efforts in reducing pollution in the area still needs improvement and related departments are urged to speed up the wastewater treatments.
