Cable Operator Offers New Cable Packages to Win Back Customers
Shenzhen Topway, a local cable operator will be collaborating with domestic web service company Oriental Times Media and local TV maker Hisense and offer three packages for residents in efforts to win back its customers that have left the cable and chose to use the Internet. Aside from offering basic local and domestic satellite TV channels each of the packages will contain video games, educational and animation TV programs, a gamepad, a smart box set and chose from a 42 inch or 50 inch 4K resolution Hisense television set.
China has a high cable TV penetration in households but recent statistics have shown that TV programs in China were at 64 percent last year or down by 8.1 percent from 2010. What cable has lost is Web TV’s gain as digital media players such as XIaomi Box and LTV box and other online video sites have split the audiences of cable TV. Cable TV operators are being backed by the government for several years now and due to the rapid grow of WebTV and other online providers stalled the growth of cable TV operators.
Most Chinese Web TV users still maintain the cable services and cable companies still have more information on their subscribers than Web providers and they are trying to capture that advantage by offering several options of selling various TV programs with high resolution programs using high resolution TV set sold at discounted prices just to fight back online providers as the market shares slowly slips away.
