Tmall to Open its Duty Free Shopping Platform
Online shopping platform Tmall.hk that carries overseas goods controlled by e-commerce powerhouse Alibaba has launched it international duty free shopping platform. Consumers holding outbound plane tickets are now allowed to purchase duty free goods through Tmall’s website or it mobile app and retrieve their items at any designated duty free shops by showing their confirmation texts or barcode after they come back from their overseas trips.
Shilla Duty Free Shop of the Republic of Korea and King Power Duty Free shop in Thailand already signed agreements with Tmall in selling their products using the e-commerce platform. Tmall also release a variety of promotions on its initial phase in hopes to attract more customers into selling their items on the Tmall platform.
Last year, Chinese consumers have spent 1 trillion yuan overseas as outbound travelers from China reached 100 million. And these travelers made their purchases through duty free shops. Tmall.hk hopes that by this time travelers will use their platform in purchasing items as they created a new form of overseas shopping. Tmall is also negotiating with several domestic and foreign duty free shops into helping shoppers purchase products coming from more countries nad regions.
