More Hong Kong Residents Going to Shenzhen to get Medical Treatments
More Hong Kong residents are crossing over to Shenzhen to get medical care recently. In Hong Kong it will take a patient a few months to get a nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) but shorter period in Shenzhen at a lesser cost. Based on a report Hong Kong patients are favoring orthopedics departments in mainland hospitals and traditional Chinese medicine.
One Hong Kong resident got X-rays in a clinic in Hong Kong but continues to have difficulty in breathing, she later went to a hospital in Shenzhen and got a traditional Chinese massage and after a week of treatment she felt better for a cost less than a 1,000 yuan. Some public hospitals in Hong Kong just opened their traditional Chinese medicine departments and treatment are expensive, thus pushing Hong Kong patients to visits traditional Chinese medicine clinics in Shenzhen. Not only TCMs are becoming popular but internal medicine and dental clinics in Shenzhen as well.
To have dental work such as implanting a tooth in Hong Kong can cost HK$30,000, but in Shenzhen in costs around 7,000 to 8,000 yuan. Reports showed that around 10 percent of patients are going to dental clinics in Louhu since its closer to Hong Kong. Commercial medical insurance mostly cover treatments in Shenzhen and patients can get partial refunds for treatment that are made less than a week from most insurance companies.
