Shenzhen Airport to Open Twenty Four Hour Customs Check to Attract More Passengers
Customs at the Shenzhen airport will be introducing a twenty-four hour around the clock clearance by mid November for cargo and travelers to make way for the opening of more international air routes. As of the moment airport customs are operating from 7 am until 2 am and travelers and cargo number turnovers at the Shenzhen airport is growing. The number of travelers passing through the airport in 2014 has reached more than 36 million ranking it fifth among major Chinese cities.
International travelers passing Shenzhen airport reached 1.24 million last year and between January to June the number of travelers reached 793,000 showing an increase of 43 percent compared to the same period last year. The increase of international travelers pushed the airport to consider opening the around the clock customs clearance that will also lay the foundation for the airport to open more international routes. In 2014 around 4 million local residents have traveled abroad and 90 percent of these travelers flew out of Hong Kong or Guangzhou. Once the airport introduces the twenty four hour customs clearance, China Southern Airlines will open a direct flight flying out of Shenzhen to Sydney Australia starting in December.
Shenzhen airport handles more travelers since the terminal 3 was placed into operation by the end of 2013, and by the end of 2020 traveler turnover of Shenzhen airport is expected to hit 55 million and international passenger turnover will hit 5.5 million. The airport now operates 18 international air routes with flights to South Korea, Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Mauritius and Singapore. Shenzhen airport is considered a main line airport rather than a pivotal airport and a disadvantage when authorities consider allocation of international routes resources and create new policies. The twenty four hour customs clearance ensures the opening of international flights especially stimulate passenger flow from Southeast Asian countries that are only four hours away by plane.
