Railway Network to Reach 18,000 km and Foster New Growth
The high speed railway network in China is expected to reach 18,000 kilometers by the end of the year, thus building a solid foundation for an industry that generates new market growth points at the 13th Five Year Plan period. Data from the China Railway Corp. the country’s railway service provider showed that china will be adding 2,000 kilometers more of high speed rail by the end of the year the final year for the 12th Five Year Plan period. This will be part of the government’s plan in placing more than 8,000 kilometers of extra lines in regular and high speed railway networks into operation.
The target for the railway construction was announced by Premier Li Keqiang during the Government Work Report earlier in which the report stated that all cities in China with a population of more than half a million residents will be connected to the high speed railway network. China also set a target for doing research and making innovations in the permanent magnetic motor technology that is used in the high speed train systems since most existing units re running on alternating current. By using permanent magnetic motors will be using less energy and improve the train’s reliability which is a trend in the research on high speed trains.
The nation is also aiming to create a comprehensive transport network by the end of the year that will have four high speed east to west arteries and four north to south arteries as the backbones. The national high speed railway and the national expressway networks are expected to take shape soon. According to a top economic planner said that high speed trains were the preferred choice for passenger in China and these trains have over come the disadvantages of coaches that have poor safety record especially in the overnight services.
