Hospital Invests for Expansion Project in 2018
Pinghu Hospital is planning a 1.8 billion yuan expansion project. The hospital originally designed to serve a population of 100,000, which is far fewer than the subdistrict 600,000. The new addition will make the hospital ten times larger and will be offering 2,000 beds once its completed in October 2018.
Shenzhen Party chief Ma Xingrui was present during the kick off ceremony and has described that the hospital will be a key project and the city will be doing more improvements in the hospital’s infrastructure while focusing on areas outside the former special economic zone. The hospital was built on 1993 with a floor area of 16,000 square meters and often overcrowded. Although the hospital can handle 1,600 clinical visits at full capacity, the population in Pinghu placed a serious strain in the hospital.
In the past years, Pinghu saw a rapid urban expansion ranging from construction of a logistics base, an agricultural produce market and a financial industry service base. There are two area hospitals namely the Huaqiao Hospital and Pinghu Hospital only provides 530 beds, which is far behind the population growth of the subdistrict and residents have been complaining that its harder for them to get medical treatment at local hospital as clinical visits can reach 2,800 patients a day double the hospital’s capacity. Residents are happy to see the construction of the new hospital and are hoping the it will introduce a higher level of professional doctors once it completed and reduces the need to see other doctors in other districts.
