Leaders Pledged to Increase Efforts in Eliminating Poverty in Rural Areas
Top leaders of the Communist party of China have pledged to increase efforts to eliminate poverty in rural areas and defeat regional poverty before 2020. Hosted by President Xi Jinping, the meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee decided to pull fifty million people out of poverty in the span of five years through labor migration, industry support and education. Around 20 million people have partially lost or totally lost the capacity to work will be included in the rural subsidence allowance system.
Based on the State statistics bureau that gathered data in 2014, the rural poverty line in China was at 2,800 yuan a year. And since China have launched its reform and opening up policy over three decades now around 700 million people in rural areas have been lifted out of poverty. During the 18th Party Congress in 2012, China placed more effort in eliminating poverty by taking targeted measures that ensured assistance which reached poverty stricken villages and households. The meeting asked for enhanced infrastructure construction on poor regions, which pointed out, that old revolutionary bases in remote mountainous areas should be supported first.
Regions that inhabited by ethic minorities and border areas that suffer for extreme poverty will also get prioritized. Increased financial support to the poor and encourage financial institutions to participate on the process was also pushed. Poverty relief is entering a difficult stage, but the relief is essential for creating a well off society that improved people’s well being and is critical for the Party’s ruling foundation and national security. Development of Party schools was also discussed and is used for training senior and middle ranking Party officials.
