Shenzhen imposed a smoking ban in public venues in 2014, smokers caught violating the ban were fined 50 yuan for the first offense and gradually increased to 200 yuan for the second offense. Operators of those public venues will be fined 30,000 yuan if they are caught allowing customers to smoke in non smoking areas.
One local resident was caught smoking in Futian District, although he was aware that smoking in the market is against the law, but he didn’t even went to the designated area were smoking was allowed saying that he didn’t have the time to walk over and back.
