Phase 4 of Metro Railway to Start Construction Soon
Residents living in Longgang, Pingshan and Guangming new areas will be able to get to downtown Shenzhen in 45 minutes once the fourth phase of the underground railway network will be completed in 2025. The overall plans of the Metro network phase 4 has been mapped out and with an investment of around 320 billion yuan covering 70 percent of the 411 kilometer Metro project that is found outside of the former special economic zone which was limited to Futian, Nanshan, Yantian and Luohu districts. The Metro project will relieve traffic congestion around the former checkpoints of the former special economic zone this including Meilin, Nantou and Buji areas.
As of the moment traffic is very slow in these areas even during off peak driving hours. Based on the planned project that covers also Shekou and Qianhai which are part of the Guangdong Free Trade Zone, the Universiade New Town, the Nanshan Science and Technology Park in Longgang and Pingshan when traffic congestion is always a problem. Plans for the phase 4 project will be submitted by the city government to the national authority for approval. By 2020 the Metro network will have 435 kilometers of rail once Phase 3 which consists of Lines 7,9 and 11 will be completed and operational.
Future constructions will add more exits to the Metro stations and existing stations will have no more than four exits while some have two making it inconvenient to some residents in exiting the stations. Such example is the when Chegongmiao Station becomes an interchange station for Metro lines 1,7,9 and 11 it will only have 13 exits and is expected to handle up to 460,000 people a day.
