Shenzhen Insurance Company Launches the First Accident Insurance in China
A local Shenzhen insurance company is launching the first sports accident insurance in China, the announcement came just after an incident in the Shenzhen International Marathon last week. Partnering with WeChat and xiaoyusan.com a insurance agency website, Ping An Insurance Group announced Donglibao, China;s first sports accident insurance. A spokesperson for Ping An Insurance said that the insurance will cost the customer 1 yuan per day and that will provide a 1,000 yuan payment towards medical expenses for those injured during sports.
Donglibao cooperated with a WeChat Account that will rank the daily steps of users and their WeChat friends. Users are given a red envelope everyday based on the daily step numbers with cash ranging from 0.2 yuan to 1.6 yuan that will be paid towards the insurance fee. Donglibao will be the only insurance product that handing out rewards to users on how they walk. Meanwhile a spokesperson for xiaoyusan.com that some accident insurance people can buy excludes on intense sports or extreme sports such as rock climbing, skiing and diving meaning that clients have to buy other insurance for these sports.
The insurance company if they only bought and accident insurance might, not compensate a person that dies in a marathon,, since it could not be a disease and not an accident caused the person’s death. The spokesperson said that the sports insurance should clarify client’s rights and obligations and reduce the possibility of disputes. Several domestic insurance companies plans to introducing their owns sports insurance Aeon Life Insurance Co. that is offering insurance services that will cost clients 20 yuan a year and compensates them up to 180,000 yuan if they die during a marathon.
