President Xi Jinping Calls for More Action on Economic Reform to Revive the Northeastern Industrial Belt
During a field inspection trip to Heilongjiang province, President Xi Jinping spread a message on the central leadership decision that will revive China’s northeastern industrial belt. Xi called for more action on the economic reform and on the environmentally friendly development in the northeast region and Heilongjiang. The central leadership issued a plan that will revitalize the economy in the northeast, which has long been stalled by the lack of reform and industrial upgrading.
The region that consists of Jilin, Liaoning and Heilongjiang province and the eastern part of Inner Mongolia autonomous region. During his three day visit, XI traveled to the forest areas of Heilongjiang along with the farming areas and homes of ethnic minority groups plus the technology companies in Harbin the urban center. While in Yichun a city that has 4 million hectares of forest is used to be known for the lumber trade but the industry has been abandoned by its residents since 2013. Instead former forestry workers are placing their efforts on forestry protection and the development of diverse new environmentally friendly industries.
Xi encouraged these former workers to look for sustainable business coming from the protection and conservation of local natural resources as they can always count upon the help of the central government. A former worker started a business selling high quality honey is making 30,000 to 50,000 yuan on average higher than their wages wherein it can go even higher to 80,000 yuan with the right industry.
