China Sets a Target to Become a Leading Power in Science and Technology Sector
President Xi Jinping sets a target for China in becoming a leading power in the science and technology by the middle of this century while addressing a major conference. Xi said that China must establish itself as one of the innovative countries and a leading innovator by 2030 and become the leading global science and technology power during the 100th anniversary of the founding of the People’s republic of China in 2049.
Xi made the remarks during an event which combined the national conference on science and technology innovation, the biennial conference of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering along with the national congress of the China Association for Science and Technology. The role of science and technology serves as a bedrock that the country relies on for power and enterprises rely on for victories and the people for a better life. Having a great scientific and technological capacity is a must for China in order for the country to be strong and for its people to improve their lives by contributing new ideas, design and strategies in the science and technology fields.
The conference was chaired by Premier Li Keqiang and attended by senior leaders Zhang Dejiang, Lui Yunushan, Wang Qishan and Yu Zhengsheng. China now ranks among the most advanced country in the fields of science and technology development. As of now China is in an important transitional stage from quantity to quality and using breakthroughs in limited areas to do further improvement in the overall capacity, as the innovation was hailed as the importance force in promoting development of a country.
Considered as an inevitable choice, China implements its strategy of a innovation driven development since this strategy is aimed to ensure the country’s desicionn making power for their own development, accelerate adjustment of development patterns, improve its core competitiveness, solve deep-rooted problems, maintain sustainable and healthy economic development, and a better guide economic development in the new normal.
