iPhone Still a Popular Brand in China Despite Slow Sales PerformanceApple still remains as the most popular brand of smartphone in China, even with the rumored poor performance in the second largest market. The report was published by China Mobile Communications and is based on the analysis of the telecom operator 800 million subscribers.

This is the first time that China Mobile opened up it big data report to the public. Last May, 15 percent of the telecom’s subscribers were using iPhones, amounting to around 120 million users. Domestic brand such as Huawei and Xiaomi have ranked alongside Samsung as the second most popular brand of smartphones with each of the company representing 9 percent of mobile subscribers.

Coming from the fastest growing handset makers, local rival such as vivo Mobile Communications Technology prevailed due to its sprawling offline retail channels in smaller cities, or 14 percent of China Mobile users who were registered in the first five months are using vivo handsets. Although with the reports a research analyst stated that Apple’s strong performance is not a contradiction of the declining sales of the smartphones in China.
