Alibaba to Open Local Office in Australia later this Year
Online retailing giant Alibaba announced that it will be opening their first local office in the Australian city of Melbourne late this year after showing its intentions in expanding outside of China. Micheal Evans Alibaba’s global president stated that Australia is a huge part of the company’s long term globalization strategy in raising 423 million customers to two billion by 2036 as they plan to expand presence internationally.
Australia and New Zealand is a big part globalization strategy and in markets that are very important and they wanted a good group of people to work for them.according to Evans they want to develop government and regulatory relationship as they grow strong domestically and is a big part of what their doing internationally. The e-commerce business is said to be worth 200 billion US dollars have eight staff members in Australia, however plans in opening up the first office in the city of Melbourne by the end of the year, Alibaba is looking to target Australian consumers to help boost its business in the next three to five years.
Alibaba products are being used by a number of Australian retailers such as Woolsworth and Chemist Warehouse and Blackmores and the country is ranked the fifth top selling country in China during the global shipping festival Singles Day last year. Australian businesses must be well placed and take advantage in the spending boom in south east Asia. Alibaba is connected to about 500 thousand consumers and they are not all Chinese speaking consumers and are engaged in the e-commerce business both ways, exporting to foreign markets and imports to Austrlia.
