New names causes confusion
Thanks to the recent renaming of expressways throughout Shenzhen a lot of experienced and amateur drivers found themselves lost
The new names was adpoted to allow integration into the national freeway network, with the new names starts with the letter G followed by an arabic number. Such as Guangzhou-Shenzhen Expressway is now called G4. Five expressway was renamed accordingly, the Jihe, Yanpai and Huiyan expressway are now a part of the longer G15 expressway connecting Shenyang in the Liaoning Province and Haikou in Hainan Province.
Drivers are starting to complain when they have to pull over at the Shenzhen airport toll gate just to figure out the confusing new names like G4, G15 and G107. Drivers also reported seeing taxis stopping before the toll gates also trying to figure out the system and figuring out which way to go.
Shenzhen Expressway Management says it can be confusing and inconvenient at first, but after a while people will get used to it and it will good for the management of the national network.
