Applicants with no assets need to submit new applications
Housing applicants that claimed having no family assets will need to resubmit their applications. Upon inspection the government found that some families total assets did not exceed 320,000 yuan which is the maximum allowed asset required for the applicant to be eligible to apply for an apartment.
After a round of official checks, some applicants have no family assets but were living in upscale residential areas either borrowed or rented from other families. Some were holders of Shenzhen hukou but were working and living outside of Shenzhen. These revelations caused an outcry prompting applicants to cancel their applications. District housing said they carefully checked applicants living in expensive residential areas to make sure they have the neccessary requirements to lease the high priced apartments.
Most of the applicants are migrants that came to Shenzhen as early as in the 50s and 60s, and have already transferred their hukou. But some of these applicants are holders of urban hukou which have different policies, therefore they cannot get land or houses like the original villagers.
