Clinic for Universiade games to start operations in August
The Universiade Athletes Village polyclinic in Longgang District will start it operation in August. Five drills will be done to test the functions of the clinic before the clinic starts their operation.
Shenzhen No. 2 People’s Hospital will provide 265 medical staff for the clinic. The staff is expected to serve the 20,000 people that will be participating in the games, this includes athletes, coaches, team officials and volunteers.
Medical staff will undergo training to speak English, and volunteers will be on hand to offer translate for patients that speak a different language. The clinic will have three floors and 17 departments and will be open 24 hours and offer free service to all accredited people during the games.
The clinic will also provide acupuncture and massage service and might receive 200 people a day during the Universiade games. The clinic is capable to handle any minor injuries or illness that usually happens to athletes. In some cases that the clinic can’t handle they will automatically be transferred to the Shenzhen No. 2 hospital using the five ambulances on stand by within 20 minutes.
Medicines needed for the games will be stored and undergoes inspection by the city’s drug administration before it will be used in the clinic. Also the International University Sports Federation medical steering committee will be establishing a command center that will operate 24 hours a day that is in charge for medical care and public sanitation and any emergency response.
