Huawei Technologies to Increase Global Smartphone Market Penetration
Huawei Technologies Co. is aiming to ship over 20 million smartphones this year. This new target is much higher than previously announced since the company wants to make its mark in the consumer device sector. The company will be shipping their smartphones running Google’s Android operating system by the end of the year.
The company’s previous target was to ship 12 to 15 million smartphones, but based on sales from the first half of this year, the company might have surpassed the projected target prompting them to increase their expected shipments to 20 million units.
Huawei Devices contribute 17 percent to Huawei’s overall revenue of almost 185 billion yuan. The division devotes itself to selling consumer devices like mobile phones, tablet PCs and wireless cards. Huawei and rival ZTE corp. have been consistently unveiling different types of smartphones that are said to compete with Apple’s iPhone and Samsung Galaxy phones.
Huawei is also trying to enter the global market by entering exhibition events in Milan and other cities. At present they are ranked fifth in terms of global market share of Android smart phones.
I’ve been very impressed with Huawei devices recently – the build quality is excellent.
