Public Schools Encouraged to Enroll Students with Special Needs
The Shenzhen government is encouraging public schools to allow and enroll local children that have special needs. In a recent statement on the development of special education in Shenzhen was issued by the city government. As of the moment most of the public schools are hesitant in taking students that have special needs due to the lack of teachers with special training.
A representative for the municipal education bureau has acknowledged the situation and agreed that it was the obligation of every public school to allow students to learn and enroll especially those with special needs. And based on the document the government will be setting up special funds to further assist the development of special education in the city and these public funds will be distributed to different local schools to pay for the special education.
The document also stated that the special allocated fund that will be used for students with special needs is ten times more than the ones allocated for an ordinary student. Professional trainings and training bases for teachers for special education will be planned later in the future as the city education bureau will be offering short term and distance training for teachers for special education. Districts will be required to improve their resources that are allocated for students with special needs and these students will be integrated with ordinary students in the classrooms.
